Your new Remote Start and how to use it
Single button remotes
- One press: lock doors
- Two press: unlock doors
- 3 second press and hold: remote start vehicle, after engine is running if this procedure is done again it will shut down the engine.
If you opted for a 2-way system, you will hear a chime with each successful command. If you don't hear a chime it's safe to assume the vehicle is too far away or there is significant signal interference and the command was not executed.
Factory key remote option
- Standard remote options function as they always did before.
- Remote start system is activated by either pressing the lock button three times or pressing Lock-Unlock-Lock. Sequence varies depending on the vehicle.
Carlink app system
Within the app, each button uses a single press.
- The closed lock will lock the doors.
- The open lock will unlock the doors.
- The round arrow will remote start the vehicle.
- The round arrow with X will shut down the engine.
- The timer in the center is the remaining engine run time.
- The symbol between the lock and unlock button shows the state of the vehicle's door locks.
- The up arrow at the bottom of the screen pulls up a menu which has the navigation system and contact info for KBCustoms. The navigation system will show the current location of the vehicle.
Range
- Remote range can be affected by infrastructure and may be shorter than expected.
- Factory remote options will work as far away as your remote works currently.
- Carlink CL6 will work nation wide, as long as the antenna inside the vehicle is picking up a network signal and your phone has network/wifi signal.
- Carlink Bluetooth will work up to one mile. Bluetooth remote needs to be near your phone to be connected to the app.
Takeover
Some vehicles will shut down the engine upon a door opening or doors being unlocked as a security feature. This typically happens on vehicles that don't scan for the factory key fob after the engine is running. The system will shut down so that the vehicle can't be driven by you or anyone else without the key fob.
- Regular key ignition: enter vehicle, insert key into ignition, turn key to run position (click before crank position) press brake and drive away. If brake is pressed before the key is inserted the vehicle will shut down as a safety feature.
- Push button start ignition: procedure varies depending on vehicle. Most vehicles will takeover seamlessly with a simple brake press and gear select. Others will need the push button pressed with or without the brake pedal pressed.
